A Christmas Road Trip

 by Bob Cochrane

‘Twas the weekend before Christmas
when the Blades traveled far
To Whitbourne they went
By van and by car.

Blades fans showed up
With all their good cheer
With hopes that their team
Would win the affair.

As the team hit the ice
We started to clap
Debbie lead the way
With her favourite Blades rap.

The team was fired up
The goalies were ready
With O’Rourke and Mandville
Fans knew they’d be steady.

They took to the ice
They won the first draw
and went up by one
At the hands of McGrath.

The opponents were anxious
And at our goalie started pecking
But the captain lead a charge
And the Blades came out checking.

To the top of the blueline
To the edge of the crease
Devin Saunders took aim
With a snappy release.

The Tee Pees saw red
From the goal judges light
But the Blades weren’t throught yet
There’d be more goals tonight.

In the blink of an eye
And a twist of his head
McGrath dished to Parrot
And you guessed it, more red.

The stands just erupted
The bench was a frenzy
All the home team could do
Was look on with envy.

It seemed that the Blades
Could do as they like
And just like that
Another goal by Jon Pike.

With all the excitement
Things got a bit crazy
And with a big lead
The Blades got a little lazy.

And then in the second
The Tee Pees fought back
With three goals to our one
They forged an attack.

The bench became quiet
The Tee Pees did roar
As we entered the third
They had evened the score.

And then just in time
With troops fresh from the bench
The Blades took the lead
on a goal by Len French.

The Tee Pees fought back
But then failed to clear it
And the Blades found the net
Off the stick of Robert Parrot.

To the coaches the day
Was well worth the drive
The Blades scored seven
And the Tee Pees got five.

And I heard Rod exclaim
As he drove out of sight
It’s the Celtics tomorrow
Have a good rest tonight !

 Merry Christmas
